Interactive Reading Recommendations:

Unlock your child’s love for reading with these suggestions to enhance their experience as you read the various books in the series. As they review their favorite page/image help them to imagine even more.

Snowy Gets A Family Of Her Own

Throughout this story there are many characters, shapes, emotions, and colors. While reading with your child you can further engage with them by asking them questions about what is happening in the images or what the dialog means for the characters. For example, you can discuss what other toys might be in Santa’s sack or why Snowy is nervous. This is a wonderful way for children to start identifying emotions, work on reading comprehension, and grow in their critical thinking skills.

Violet Duck Eggs-traordinaire!

As you read this story, discuss how the bird families are like your family (building a home, feeding the children, talking with one another). Throughout the story there are opportunities to point out colors and shapes. The eggs in the little duck’s basket present some very interesting shapes like spirals, polka dots, zigzags, and stripes. As you read, ask your child to identify what they think the characters are thinking and feeling. What’s their favorite flower? If they’ve been on an Easter egg hunt, what was their favorite memory? Or consider creating an egg or treasure hunt of your own. As Snowy and Violet become sisters, share what you like best about your family. Sing Violet’s song and insert your child’s name. It might go something like: There is a boy we love so much and Micah is his name yeah, M-I-C-A-H we think he’s just great. It’s a great way to learn how to spell their name.
